Oscar Award winning Director, Sam Mendes’ stunning and seductive revival production of Cabaret opened in London in 1995 and immediately became the hottest ticket in town. Soon after this it transferred to New York winning a cavalcade of awards including four Tony awards, including ‘Best Revival of a Musical’, and three Drama Desk awards including ‘Outstanding Revival of a Musical’. This production starred Tina Arena as Sally Bowles in Sydney, Lisa McCune as Sally Bowles in Melbourne and Toby Allen from the pop band Human Nature as the Emcee.

This adaptation of The Wind in the Willows has been created specifically to be performed in an outdoor setting and performed by actors from the Australian Shakespeare Company. ALEXANDER GAVRILJUK – A SOL0 RECITAL
Australian Institute of Music
Alexander Gavriliuk performed this recital as a celebration of him being awarded the first prize in The Hamamatsu International Piano Competition. Alexander Gavriliuk was born in the Ukraine and began piano studies at age 7. He gave his first concert performance at age 9 and soon won first prize in nearly every competition that he entered. The 4 th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition was held in Japan in November 2000 with contestants from 24 countries. 79 finalists were selected from 346 applicants representing 42 countries and auditioned in New York, Paris, Vienna, Moscow and Japan.

The Australian Institute of Music is a national independent center of musical excellence. Founded in 1968 the Institute is a private non-profit tertiary and secondary educational college located in central Sydney

The Boy From Oz, the most exciting musical ever to be created in Australia, commenced its season at Her Majesty's Theatre, Sydney, with its World Premiere on Thursday 5 March, 1998. The Boy From Oz brings to life the remarkable story of Peter Allen, one of the greatest show business talents ever to emerge from this country. The Boy From Oz brings together an outstanding creative team. Co-producers are Australian-based film and television producer Ben Gannon and London and Broadway producer Robert Fox. Director was Gale Edwards, the first Australian woman to direct on the main stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Academy Award nominated Nick Enright was the writer and Roger Kirk, Tony Award winner for The King and I on Broadway, was the Costume Designer. The coveted role of Peter Allen was played by Todd McKenney.

After the success of their 1996 production of Howard Barker's (Uncle) Vanya and their award winning 1998 Adelaide Fringe season and subsequent sell-out Sydney tour of MOJO and The Dumb Waiter, Brink Productions presented the Australian premiere of Howard Barker's epic masterpiece The Europeans. The Europeans is a play of disturbing power. It is 1683 and Europe has narrowly survived the onslaught of the Turkish empire. Barker's menagerie of fractured characters move through a demolished landscape bearing the scars of catastrophe and the insights of experience. Out of the damage and destruction new sensibilities emerge.

This unique rock musical, with music and lyrics by Daniel Abineri, and directed by Terry O'Connell, satirised the hypocrisy that exists in a society of greed and corruption. Johnny's rise to power through the manipulation of the media was orchestrated by his evil mentor Father Maclean played by Angels lead singer Doc Neeson, whilst ex Saints lead singer, Chris Bailey, played the high living Pope Liberty III. Johnny's mother, Mary, was played by Kim Deacon. Featured in the title role of Johnny was Guy Taylor.

Bold Girls, an award winning play, looked at the plight of contemporary women living in societies under siege, or countries at war. Bold Girls was the joint winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Award for the Best Play by a woman in the English-speaking world. Rona Munro's name was probably be best known to Sydney audiences as the screenwriter for Ken Loach's 1994 film Ladybird Ladybird which screened at the Dendy last year. Ken Boucher has directed for theatre companies including Playbox, Griffin, The State Theatre Company of South Australia, Marian Street and Nimrod. In the Downstairs Theatre he directed "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" by David Mamet in 1980, as well as a very successful six-week season of Terry Johnson's "Unsuitable for Adults" in 1988.

A smash hit on the West End in London, and enjoying recent success in New York, My Night With Reg first opened at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in 1994. It won the 1994 Writers Guild of Great Britain Award for Best Fringe Theatre Play. On the West End it went on to win the 1994 Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy and the 1995 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy. Kevin Elyot won the 1995 London Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Newcomer. His new play, "The Day I Stood Still", opened at the National Theatre of Great Britain in January. My Night With Reg is about love and betrayal amongst a group of old friends, united in facing the ever present spectre of AIDS. Extremely moving and deliciously bitchy, the play covers several years in the lives of these friends. By the end, with all the deceit and hurt, there is still the power of love which stands as a testament to the nature of true friendship. The production was directed by Tony Knight (Head of Acting at NIDA), the cast being Peter Flett, Sean Hall, Graham Harvey, Jonathan Mill, Anthony Phelan and Steven Tandy. This was the first Sydney production of this highly regarded play, and was a highlight of the 1998 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, at the refurbished Newtown Theatre, located in the heart of Sydney's thriving inner west.

OPERA IN THE OUTBACK

International opera star Dame Kiri Te Kanawa reprised her brilliant 1988 Bicentennial Opera In The Outback performance on Saturday 20 September, 1997, under the stars in the remote Yalkarinha Gorge, near Beltana, The Flinders Ranges, South Australia. Dame Kiri once again was joined by members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to recreate the magic of the award-winning Bicentennial event which attracted more than 10,000 to the tiny Flinders Ranges township of Beltana. She described that performance as "the highlight of my career".

Ken Boucher has directed for theatre companies including Playbox, Griffin, The State Theatre Company of South Australia, Marian Street and Nimrod. In the Downstairs Theatre he directed "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" by David Mamet in 1980, as well as a very successful six-week season of Terry Johnson's "Unsuitable for Adults" in 1988.

This fanciful poem follows a boy's journey into adulthood. Jabberwocky was directed by Greg Carroll and written by Scott Wright, Steve Howarth and Sharon Kerr who were also the puppet designers and puppeteers. Arguably the best musical in the last thirty years GYPSY was originally performed on Broadway in 1959. You'll see the Greenwich Village "Tribe" of hippies singing the songs that summed up the spirit of the late sixties.
